Brick and stone built for Northern Virginia
Fairfax homes take a beating. Freeze-thaw winters crack mortar. Summer storms soak brick walls. Clay soil shifts under foundations. A mason who knows this area builds for it — the right mortar for the job, the right drainage behind the wall, the right footing under the chimney. That is what Fairfax Masonry Pros does.
We are masons. Brick, block, and stone are all we do. When you call, you talk to someone who lays brick for a living — not a salesperson, not a call center. We come out, look at your project in person, and give you a free written estimate. No pressure, no games.
What we do
Most of our work is brick repair — cracked mortar, spalling brick, bulging walls. Tuckpointing and repointing gives old brick walls new life by replacing worn mortar joints. Chimney repair keeps your chimney standing straight and your fireplace safe to use.
We also build new work: stone veneer that changes the whole look of a home, retaining walls that hold back Northern Virginia's hills, patios and walkways you will actually use, fireplaces, outdoor fireplaces and fire pits, brick mailboxes and columns, and foundation masonry. For bigger or older structures, masonry restoration brings historic brickwork back.
Why masonry fails in Fairfax
Water is the enemy. It gets into tiny cracks in mortar, freezes, expands, and pops the mortar out — a little more every winter. By spring you see the damage: crumbling joints, loose brick, white stains on the wall. Our freeze-thaw cycles are brutal on masonry that was never meant to hold standing water.
Clay soil is the second problem. Northern Virginia sits on heavy clay that swells when wet and shrinks when dry. That movement pushes on foundations, cracks brick veneer, and leans retaining walls. A mason who ignores the soil builds a wall that will fail. We design for it — proper footings, real drainage, and mortar matched to the brick.
The third problem is age. Fairfax County is full of brick homes from the 60s, 70s, and 80s. The brick is often fine. The mortar is not — fifty years of weather wears it down. The good news: repointing saves most of these walls at a fraction of rebuild cost.
How we work
First, we visit. Every estimate starts with us looking at your project in person — measuring, checking the mortar, looking at drainage and footings. Photos help, but they do not replace eyes on the wall.
Second, you get a written estimate. Free. It says what we will do, what materials we will use, and what it costs. You can take your time deciding.
Third, we do the work and clean up. Masonry is messy by nature — mortar, dust, brick cuts. We protect your landscaping, contain the mess, and haul it all away when we are done. You get a wall that is solid, straight, and built to last.
